Extensive research has shown that many physical problems stem from mental or emotional issues - if you are stressed or tense the muscles will automatically tighten up. Massage is an excellent means of relaxing both the body and mind, as well as promoting good health. It is also an important therapy – increasing circulation, reducing pain and speeding the healing process.
A recent study of 30,000 workers found that mental ill health such as stress and depression is now the second largest cause of time lost to sickness absence after muscle-related problems such as bad backs.
Many complementary therapies are now used alongside conventional medicine in pain clinics and GP’s surgeries and a holistic approach is recognised as beneficial in the treatment of clinical depression.
